Thermosets have played an important role in industry due to their superior properties from the cross-linked networks, with the worldwide annual production of more than 65 million tons, while they are typically made of non-sustainable fossil reserves. Thus, sustainable thermosets were prepared by cross-linking epoxidized sucrose soyate (ESS) derived from sucrose and soybean oil fatty acid with naturally occurring acids without the use of extra catalyst. Water and other organic solvents were used to assist the curing process. The effects of the solvents on the curing process and properties of the cross-linked thermosets were investigated. This effort would provide a promising method for preparing sustainable thermosets.
