<b>The reinforcing capability of wood cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs)</b>, after different functionalizations, when used as additives in wood-fibre based papers was compared and evaluated. We have shown that CNFs can be used as functional chemicals in the preparation of new or improved fibre-based products. This means that the bio-based nanofibrils can both be used to replace existing chemicals and to prepare paper-based products with a specified functionality without the need to modify the entire fibre raw-material in the product.
