Cationic surfactants were cross-linked at the headgroups in nonpolar solvents to afford interfacially cross-linked reverse micelles (ICRMs). These organic-soluble core–shell nanoparticles can trap multianionic fluorophores physically within its hydrophilic core. The dye-containing ICRMs were characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, and fluorescence quenching studies. These studies revealed the location of the dyes and the different photophysical properties of the dyes from those dissolved in regular solvents.
