The kinetics of the reactions of CN radicals with CH3Br (methyl bromide) were studied using transient infrared laser absorption spectroscopy. Direct time-resolved detection of CN as well as HCN products was used to determine total rate constants and product channels. We find that this reaction is fast but with a negative activation energy and that HCN is only a minor reaction product, indicating that other product channels, possibly including BrCN+CH3, CH2CN+HBr, and CH3CN +Br exist.
