Over the past 20 years, sustainability has emerged as a new paradigm in the development of chemistry. Today, environmental factors and atom economy concepts are commonly used in combination with chemical yields to assess the impact of new transformations. Macrocyclic and polymer chemistries have also been strongly impacted by environmental considerations. Throughout this lecture, we will present and discuss the different approaches we adopted in our group in order to develop more sustainable transformations. Representative examples taken from our contribution in oxidation chemistry, ligand design and polycondensation will be discussed. In particular, we will disclose and discuss the development of the set of conditions that were used for improving the environmental impact of porphyrin-based epoxidation reactions (oxidant, reaction media,…).1-3 Our recent work on ligand design4 will also be presented so as the approaches we have recently embraced in (poly)condensation reactions5 (solvent substitution,6 biomass valorization7…). 1.
