<br/> <br/>The detection of cannabinoid metabolites in urine forms the basis of detection of illicit cannabinoid substances in the human body. Traditional detection methods of cannabinoids rely on GC-MS analysis of individual urine samples to detect particular metabolites. However, the changing synthetic cannabinoid landscape creates a challenge for the detection of new drug derivatives and their respective metabolites. Many metabolites, even after recent consumption, are found in such low concentration that the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the instruments are difficult to calibrate. Therefore, synthesizing these molecules to obtain useful standards for drug detection and analysis is of high importance.  This work will focus on the synthesis and characterization of methyl 2-[(1H-indazol-3-ylcarbonyl)amino]-3-methylbutanoate based metabolites. The successful synthesis of these molecules demonstrates great potential in the detection of evolving cannabinoid drugs and their corresponding metabolites.<br/>
