There have been numerous reports of self-assembly of ligands templated by enzyme active sites, mainly via the azide-acetylene "click" reaction. But a range of other chemistries may also be compatible with this concept, if attention is paid to the kinetics of the underlying reactions. Examples will be presented using the carbonic anhydrase system as a test bed.
