I will recount the most interesting experiences I have had and the most surprising discoveries I have made in my professional career as a self-taught fluorine chemist (self-taught, but with a lot of advice and encouragement from many of you). This will include my first experiences with fluorine chemistry as an undergraduate chemistry major, to an inspirational fluorine-chemistry seminar I attended as a graduate student, to my initially uninitiated attempts to do main-group fluorine chemistry as a new Assistant Professor, to the present day.
