A new method for the photorelease of amines, alcohols, and ketones using 700 nm light and the photoredox chemistry of a common synthetic dye has been developed. The uncaging process occurs under physiological conditions and is complete within minutes. The synthesis, scope, and applications will be discussed. Efforts to extend the chromophore into the 900 nm range will be presented.
