Nitride complexes of many mid-transition metals have been explored for their use in catalysis and applications to ammonia synthesis. Comparatively, mononuclear early transition metal nitrides have not been isolable until recently due to the reactive nature of this bond, hypothesized to be extremely polarized and nucleophilic. This presentation will discuss the reactivity and characterization of a terminally bound anionic dinuclear titanium nitride we recently reported, [μ2- K(OEt2)]2[(PN)2TiN]2, (PN− = (N-(2-(diisopropylphosphino)-4- methylphenyl)-2,4,6-trimethylanilide). Featured reactivity includes access of rare imido complexes, salt elimination reactions resulting in N-atom transfer, and redox reactivity.
