Tetra-substituted furans have been formed by an unprecedented and highly efficient rearrangement of propargylic diols. Five examples of the rearrangement will be presented as well as the proposed mechanism. Two of the furans have been characterized with X-ray crystal structures. The efficiency of the rearrangement is dependent on the electron donating ability of the substituents on the aromatic rings.
