The distinctive photophysical properties of ruthenium polypyridyl complexes have been utilized in many applications, from solar energy conversion and photocatalysis to chemical sensing and biological imaging. The incorporation of a cyclometalated (N^C) ligand adds a further level of control over the photophysical and redox properties of these complexes, which are responsive to substituent effects on the N^C ligand. We report the synthesis of novel ruthenium polypyridyl cyclometalated complexes bearing organoantimony substituents on the N^C ligand. The characterization and structure of these complexes will be discussed, and the effects of the antimony substituents on the electronic and photophysical properties will be examined.
