Bioorthogonal chemistry provides the means for the investigation of biological systems through the insertion of chemically unique functionalities within biomolecules of interest. Rendered chemically unique, these target biomolecules can be selectively discriminated by a probe [1]. Herein we report the incorporation of bioorthogonal metabolites into both dengue virus and densovirus (an insect parvovirus) for the examination and identification of virus-host protein-protein interactions. In addition, we report the use of modified viruses as a scaffold for the development of new chemical tools for protein labeling and crosslinking [2][3].
