HIPE (High Internal Phase Emulsion) is defined as an emulsion in which an internal phase (disperse phase) volume greater than 74.05% of the total volume. The polymerization of the external phase (continuous phase) of a HIPE is referred to as a PolyHIPE. PolyHIPEs have many outstanding properties such as high specific surface areas (SSAs), highly interconnected porous structure and they have been studied for many applications such as gas adsorption, separation membranes, and tissue engineering scaffolds. The most studied PolyHIPE system is styrene (S) and divinylbenzene (DVB). In this study, properties of poly(S/DVB)HIPE are further modified by adding nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) from water hyacinth. Water hyachinth (Eichornia Crassipes) is an aquatic plant and has become an invasive plant species on many rivers and waterways in Thailand. NCC derived from cellulose has many unique properties and interesting for the development of new materials. In this work, NCC will be synthesized from water hyacinth. The effect of loading NCC that prepared from water hyacinth on mechanical properties, thermal properties, and morphology of poly(S/DVB)HIPE filled with NCC will be investigated
