A chloro-bridged cyclopalladated complex (CPC) derived from N,N-dimethylbenzylamine was reacted with HPPh2 under a variety of conditions to obtain the corresponding aminophosphine product. After optimization, the scope of the reaction was explored with a range of CPCs including chiral and achiral complexes, those with N, S, or P donor atoms, those having five- or six-membered rings, and those containing either an (sp2) or (sp3)C–Pd bond. The corresponding N,P, S,P, and P,P ligands were isolated in 22–77% yields.
