Bacterial cellulose (BC), biosynthesized water-insoluble polysaccharide, has been fascinating in biochemical application due to its unique physical and mechanical properties that triggered considerable interest, especially as wound dressing. An ultrafine network of cellulose nanofibers can supply as, and excellent wound healing system with high water holding ability, great liquid absorption, high purity, good conformability an excellent wet strength. However, BC itself is lack of antibacterial activity and cannot provide a barrier against wound infection. To resolve this issue, biopolymer and antibacterial agents: chitosan (CS), sodium alginate (SA), and turmeric extract were incorporated into BC gel to develop new biomedical materials with excellence in antimicrobial activity. In this work, the effect of material compositions on physical and chemical properties of dressing, tensile strength, swell ratio, and drug release were systematically studied. Then the antimicrobial activity were evaluated by zone of inhibition (AATCC 147) against gram negative (<i>E.coli</i>) and gram positive (MRSA) bacteria.
