A trimetallic ferrocene–ruthenium-ferrocene complex with a bridging bipyridine Fc(bipy)RuCl<sub>2</sub>(bipy)Fc has been synthesized and characterized by NMR, IR, and UV-Vis. The electrochemical behavior of the trimetallic complex reveals strong electronic communication between ruthenium and ferrocene transmitted through the bipyridine bridge. It can be used as a building block for the design of luminescent and redox-reactive species containing a high number of metal centers. This complex as well as analogs can prove useful as antenna components for photosensitization processes, luminescence probes, and multielectron photocatalysis.
