As a result of their small footprint and high surface area, engineered nanomaterials represent a promising but as yet underutilized tool in the development of sustainable water resources.  Here, we explore recent advances in the fabrication of nanomaterial enabled reactive filtration technologies. Experimental systems center on the development of porous, three-dimensional networks of nanotubes, nanofibers and their composites and their application in water treatment as novel platforms for advanced chemical oxidation processes and multi-target sorption.  Optimization focuses both on materials properties and chemical activity, identifying materials most promising for deployment in decentralized and point-of-use treatment applications.
