The ErbB family of tyrosine kinases drives cell growth and has been associated with increased malignancy and resistance to treatment. In particular, erbB2 has been identified as an important target for chemotherapy. Although several inhibitors of erbB kinases are clinically available, there is a continued need to identify treatment combinations that improve the efficacy of these inhibitors and slow the development of resistance.<br/>Our research examines the effects of combining erbB2 kinase inhibitors with low dose radiation, and with chemical means of increasing the cellular concentration of radicals. Data will be presented for the impact of individual agents and combined treatments in erbB2+ cell lines, and the results will be analyzed using current mathematical models for synergistic effect.
