Real-time monitoring the elementary molecular process of chemical reaction at single-particle level is quite significant for understanding the nature of reaction mechanisms. In this paper, we applied plasmon resonance Rayleigh scattering spectroscopy and dark-field microscopy to track the redox reaction between hydroquinone and silver ion which taking place on the surface of a single gold nanoparticle. The application of dark-field imaging monitoring could enable the unique scattering spectrum of individual particle and detect at high spatio-temporal resolution simultaneously. When the redox reaction was conducted under different pH solution, three different kinds of scattering peak shifts of gold nanoparticle were recorded. Moreover, the characterization of reaction mechanisms and the reaction kinetics for the dynamic reaction process were further investigated considering the properties of hydroquinone and silver ion. This method for <i>in situ</i> monitoring the chemical reaction at arbitrary time promises to expend the study of reaction mechanisms and kinetics at the single-nanoparticle level.
