This project studies gold-silver alloy nanoparticles and their relationship with the fluorescent properties of materials. The first part of the proejct entails the synthesis of various types of gold-silver alloy structures such as spheres, prisms, and nanorods. The influence of the various nanoparticles on the fluorescent properties of various compounds such as ruthenium tris-bipyidine and tryptophan will be studied in various optical studies such as steady-state and time-resolved fluorescent studies. The processes of energy transfer, size and shape dependence, along with solvent influences will be analyzed for their efficiency in the fluorescent quenching process using the Stern-Volmer model.
