Water soluble catalysts are necessary in order to replace toxic organic solvents with abundant, non-toxic aqueous solvents for catalyzed organic transformations.  Toward this effort a series of water soluble imidazolium ligands have been synthesized and used as supporting ligands for M-NHC complexes.  The synthesis, structure, and catalytic testing for each complex will be discussed.<br/>
