Since the discovery of its significant catalytic ability in 1973, the field of gold catalysis has been extensively explored. While gold(I) salts such as AuClPh<sub>3</sub> have been cited as the active catalyst in a multitude of reactions ranging from nucleophilic additions to Friedel-Crafts reactions to redox reaction, it has recently come to light that gold nanoparticles forming from these gold(I) salts during the course of these reactions may be the true catalytic source. Our work determining the active catalytic species in an AuClPh<sub>3</sub>-catalyzed etherification reaction and amination reaction will be discussed. Additionally, our attempts to catalyze various hydroamination reactions using gold nanoparticles of distinct sizes will be presented.
