Ru3(CO)12 cluster was attached on K-doped Al2O3 surface, and its clusterization process was investigated by in situ FT-IR and XAFS. The in situ characterization reveaed that there were three stages for the Ru cluster formation on the surface. The formed Ru nanocluster was active for nitrile hydrogenation and corresponding primary amine was selectively formed from valeronitriles. The reaction intermediates of the Ru surface were also investigated by DFT calculations.
