The iron complex [Fe(DIG3tren)](triflate)2, 1, binds with NO to form a S=3/2 {FeNO}7 complex, 2. DIG3tren resembles the previously studied TMG3tren (Speelman, Lehnert Angew. Chem. 2013, 52, 12283), but with the ability to act as a hydrogen bond donor. 2 has been isolated and characterized using IR, UV-Vis, CV, and spectroelectrochemistry. The νNO stretch of 2 at 1769 cm-1 was 20 cm-1 higher than that observed for the TMG3tren complex, with additional spectral differences upon reduction (see figure).
