Multimetallic oxide nanomaterials have great potential as functional materials in a wide spectrum of technological avenues due to their useful physical and chemical properties. The precise control over chemical composition, morphology and structure remains a major challenging task in converting laboratory-based methods into large industrial synthetic processes for nanocrystalline oxide materials.  We developed an efficient and cost-effective aqueous-based synthetic method for synthesizing nanocrystalline metal vanadates and metal molybdates materials form the thermal decomposition of α–hydroxy acids-based molecular bimetallic precursors. The advantages of using the molecular approach as a strategy to construct the target nanostructured metal oxide material starting from the atomic scale on attaining compositional and structural control on the formed nanocrystalline solid state phase will be discussed.
