Guanidine ligands make versatile building blocks for the synthesis of a variety of coordination complexes. Here we will discuss the synthesis of chelating guanidinyl complexes made from the bicyclic guanidine 1,4,6-triaza- bicyclo[3.3.0]oct-4-ene (Htbo). This will include the synthesis of PhB(tbo)<sub>3</sub>Li and related complexes, as well as explorations of the coordination chemistry of these novel ligands. Additional discussion will be focused on silicon and phosphorus derivatives. Comparisons will be made to the known coordination chemistry of Htbo and its salts, as well as to related polyguandinyl alkanes.
