Sustainable materials such as biodegradable and biocompatible polyesters from renewable resources have attracted increasing attention. In particular, polycarbonates and polylactides have been regarded as promising alternatives to petroleum based polymers.  Herein we present a series of chiral amido-oxazolinato zinc catalysts that are effective in controlling the microstructure of polymers, yielding isotactic polylactides from the ring opening polymerization of <i>rac</i>-lactide, and isoenriched polycarbonates from alternating copolymerization of carbon dioxide and epoxides.
