Tetrazines have been shown to bind alkenes and show a chemiresistive sensing response in carbon nanotube-tetrazine composites. The binding event resulting in a sensing response, however, has been largely unstudied. In this work, Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy (STM) was used to study the reaction between tetrazine and various alkenes. These insights are relevant to better understand the association of the sensor compound and the analyte and can help investigate the key sensing mechanism by observing the changes in assembly at the molecular level.
