The student chapter at the Colorado School of Mines has worked meticulously to involve, aid, and inspire the next generation of chemists. The chapter remains active throughout the school year assisting students in professional development skills, classwork, and exposing them to new chemical developments. The chapter has funded member travel to national ACS conferences NREL, and Anschutz medical campus. In addition we have involved our local community through chemistry demonstrations or “demo nights.” The chapter also holds an active lecture series several times per semester highlighting current professional opportunities post gradation. Annually, the chapter holds a campus wide “Minescraft” poster session exposing students to graduate research and undergraduate research opportunities. To maintain interest in the larger community, our chapter also organizes interdepartmental social and networking events and gives department tours to incoming and potential chemistry students. As a group we also focus on continuing educational success with a tutoring program and green chemistry lab activities outside of the offered curriculum. As a result, the Colorado School of Mines chapter has propagated an active community of aspiring chemists.
