Polypeptide natural products and the synthesis of their analogues are of great importance due to their biological and pharmacological activities. The tremendous diversity of these natural products arises from the varying lengths of these polypeptides. A class of tripeptide analogues, xenortides, has demonstrated antimalarial and antibiotic activity. Macrolactones in combination with polypetide chains have exhibited toxicity against antibiotic-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The focus of this research is on the efficient total syntheses of xenortides and the linear portion of a macrolactone polypeptide natural product and their analogues.
