Undergraduate retention in fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is currently under scrutiny for the actual effectiveness of traditional teaching approaches in motivating students. The integration of technology with classic methodologies has become an attractive pedagogical approach to increase student engagement, improve major retention, and promote cognitive behavior. This presentation summarizes the benefits and challenges of tech-oriented lecture, recitation and laboratories classes as perceived by freshman chemistry majors.
