Ultrasmall copper nanoparticles were synthesized under mild conditions with a plant-based reducing agent.  The nanoparticles were evaluated for catalytic activity with several model reactions, including the reduction of p-nitrophenol, p-nitroaniline, and methylene blue.  The results are compared to results obtained with copper nanoparticles synthesized by a previously reported method.
