The rates of ligand substitution and complexation into 237Np (VI) complexes are compared quantitatively with corresponding U(VI) complexes to establish a linear free-energy relation, allowing for prediction of Np(VI) behavior based on U(VI) exchange rates available in the literature. Current work is focused on measuring pressure dependencies of ligand exchange rates into the geochemically important [NpO2(CO3)]4-, building on previous work done on the isostructural [UO2(CO3)3]4- complex. Efforts are being directed into building a high-pressure Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) probe that allows for experiments to safely reach 3.5 kbar.
