A series of gallium modified Cu/ZnO was prepared by co-precipitation method and tested as catalysts for the synthesis of methanol from CO2 hydrogenation. It was found that the presence of Ga3+ can facilitate reduction of Zn atoms from ZnO hence an highly active CuZn nano-alloy surface offering catalytic sites is formed. In addition, a correlation between Zn0 concentration to the catalytic performance was demonstrated, which shows CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity can be significantly improved by increasing Zn0 content in these Ga modified Cu/ZnO catalysts.
