Chemotherapy currently uses non-specific toxins that damage all cells while destroying cancerous cells resulting in harsh side effects. To reduce side effects, one type of immunotherapy allows antibodies with linked toxins to specifically target cancer cells. Upon reaching targeted cells, an antibody releases a toxin through the cell membrane causing cell death. Researchers are now able to extract cancer specific antibodies from chicken eggs laid by hens previously injected with a specific cancer-like antigen. This research focuses on linking an antibody, anti-human IL 13R alpha 2 peptide IgY, to a fluorescent dye, to verify effectiveness,via a cleavable disulfide bond. To mimic the antibody that was derived initially, GFP-IgY was used to verify the crosslinking method. The crosslinking agent, PDPH, was attached to FITC, a fluorescent dye, via cysteine. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected to verify the success of the linkage. Resulting linkage data are presented.
