Imazosulfuron (herbicide), benzobicyclon (herbicide), and clothianidin (pesticide) are being evaluated for the use in California rice fields. Synthesis of these known degradation products is necessary in order to create analytic standards for the investigation of potentially negative effects to the rice farming industry and the environment. Several degradation products of each have been previously synthesized and utilized in the rice field studies at the University California, Davis. Synthesis of the remaining degradation products for benzobicyclon (the hydrolysis product of benzobicyclon hydrolysate), imazosulfuron (HMS), and clothianidin (TZNG) are presented.
