Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is a conducting polymer with numerous applications in photovoltaics, batteries, and optoelectronic devices. The common synthetic route, either electrochemical or reagent catalysis, utilizes an acetonitrile solvent. This study proposes an alternate synthetic route in a neat monomer solution containing tetra-n-butylammonium hexafluorophosphate or tetra-n-butylammoniun tetrafluoroborate, in order to reduce cost and waste. PEDOT was electrodeposited onto gold and ITO glass electrodes at room temperature using cyclic voltammetry. The resulting films had above average thickness (17.51 ± 2.61 μm to 31.32 ± 5.15 μm) and controllable surface roughness.
