Polyaniline-TiO2 nanocomposites were synthesized via potentiostatic electropolymerization technique at 298.15 K. The electropolymerization of aniline at the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles suspended in 1.0 M HCl solution was accomplished in a standard three-electrode cell. The sol-gel method was employed to synthesize TiO2 nanoparticles with a 41 nm average size in the rutile phase. Polyaniline-TiO2 nanocomposite films deposited on ITO glass were characterized by SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy techniques. Electrical conductivity studies were performed by utilizing the four-probe technique. Film thickness was determined by ellipsometry. XRD, SEM, and TEM studies confirmed the distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles in the polyaniline matrix. Nanocomposite samples demonstrated electrical conductivity in the 1x10-2 to 8x10-2 S/cm range. The characterization results indicate various possibilities for applications of the nanocomposites in gas sensing and biosensing. The experimental work conducted, the characterization results, and the interpretation of these results are presented in this poster presentation.
