Understanding enzyme function in cold environments is essential for applications in marine biotechnology, for example in bioremediation of oil spills in deepwater or polar environments. We have overexpressed and purified a cytochrome P450 from a marine bacterium. We are characterizing this protein by NMR and UV-visible absorption spectroscopies, and we report binding affinities for a range of alkane substrates.
