Complexes of tris(2-pyridyl)phosphine (PPy3) were prepared from (tht)AuCl and several first row transition metal(II) nitrates. The resulting complexes were characterized by X-ray crystallography, IR, UV-visible and 1H/31P NMR spectroscopies. Additionally, complexes of the type (PPy3)M(CO)3 were synthesized to investigate the basicity of the pyridyl N-donors and the effect of substitution of the pyridine ring on ligand binding.
