The ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) program has been integrated deeply into the one-semester General Chemistry course at Westminster College.  ALEKS is utilized prior to student arrival on campus to ensure that the prerequisite knowledge for entry into this General Chemistry course has been met, otherwise the student will matriculate into a lower-level chemistry course.  ALEKS is further used throughout the semester as an online tutoring tool, where objectives in ALEKS are used to introduce or reinforce general chemistry content.  Periodic assessments in ALEKS review learned material to ensure students have maintained mastery of course content.  Additionally, the in-class instruction uses the technology of a tablet PC to provide interactive problem solving.  The tablet allows for seamless transition between course notes, video content, e-text, and using the course learning management system.  We will discuss the impact of these technologies on the General Chemistry course including student outcomes, student perceptions, technological barriers and lessons learned.
