Substitution-inert platinum-metal complexes are capable of more specific interactions on biomolecules than those containing relatively substitution-labile Pt-Cl bonds. In this presentation I will present recent work on two sets of compounds - firstly trinuclear compounds where DNA binding is sufficiently strong to inhibit protein recognition simply through physical blocking. Proteins may also be targeted rather than DNA/RNA and the second example will summarise the work on using platinum-metal nucleobase compounds to target Zinc Finger proteins, and specifically the HIV nucleocapsid NCp7 protein, to inhibit its RNA binding.
