Our work focuses primarily on exploring new optoelectronic hybrid materials to understand how structure and nature of functional organics can impact performance. Specifically, we investigate radical organic cations and their incorporation with already optoelectronicly active inorganic matrices (such as lead-iodine). Here we present successful isolation and analysis surrounding new radical cation stabilized lead halides. These materials include radical species previously reported as well new structures. For example, we have isolated a compound with a new iodoplumbate structure type where known radical cations extend infinitely between corrugated sheet layers of lead-iodide. This compound is found to be a narrow gap semiconductor, governed primarily by the organic species. All our materials have been characterized via crystallography and density functional theory, as well as independent optical and conductive testing.
