Kidney cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world. Current diagnosis techniques tend to cause pain and discomfort in patients and often do not provide a definitive confirmation of the presence of cancer. Urine analysis to detect biomarkers associated with cancer is getting much attention because of its noninvasiveness. In an effort to identify useful biomarkers for kidney cancer, recent studies have shown that 4-hydroxybenzoate, quinolinate, gentisate, alpha-ketoglutarate, galactitol, N-(2-furoyl) glycine, and fructose can be potentially used for the diagnosis process. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) coupled with Diode Array Detection provides an ideal tool for urine analysis of these biomarkers due to its availability most analytical laboratories. In this study, we develop a noninvasive method to separate and quantify these compounds in synthetic urine using HPLC, with creatinine as an indicator for renal dilution. After getting the optimum separation in HPLC, a thorough analytical method validation will be conducted.
