Amines are common structural features of many pharmacologically compounds, chemical intermediates, and commodity chemicals. The direct reduction of amides to the corresponding amines is an attractive route to the corresponding amines. We will discuss our efforts in developing a reduction methodology which employs the earth-abundant metal iron at relatively low catalyst loadings in the absence of solvent and which exhibits some chemoselectivity in rthe eduction of carbonyl groups.
