Most of industrial waste water contains organic compounds and it must be removed in environmental reason. During this cleaning process, energy and cost are consumed. In wet-feeding entrained-flow gasification, coal and water mixture (CWM) is used. Therefore, when the industrial waste water is applied instead of water in CWM, organic compound can be used as an energy resource. In the present study, gasification of coal and waste water produced from petroleum industry mixture was performed using entrained-flow gasifier. Oxygen and air were used as a gasification agent. At experimental temperatures of 1000-1200 oC and excess air ratio of 0.25 – 0.65, gasification characteristics such as the carbon conversion, cold gas efficiency, and the composition of produced gases were investigated. Generally, carbon conversion and H2 and CO content in a product gas increased with temperature. Cold gas efficiency showed the highest value of 61% at the excess air ratio of 0.52. With increasing air/O2 ratio, H2, CO, and CO2 contents in the product gas decreased. The carbon conversion and cold gas efficiency increased until an air/O2 ratio of approximately 3.0 and decreased thereafter. Consequently, it is evident that the optimum excess air ratio and air/O2 ratio for gasification of coal and industrial waste water gasification with air and oxygen is about 0.52 and 3.0.
