This contribution will describe (a) the high-yield synthesis of a lithium derivative of the novel sulfur-centered ligand 1, (b) the first example of structurally characterized six- and four-coordinate isomers of a Ni(II) complex with the same ligand, 2a and 2b, respectively, and (c) investigations of the fluxional behavior of 2a,b via variable-temperature 31P NMR spectra and DFT calculations of a solvent model in conjunction with the 31P CP/MAS NMR spectrum and X-ray powder diffraction data.
