We developed a simple and novel approach for synthesis of WS2 nanosheets embedded with noble metal nanoparticles (mNPs) as photocatalysts. WS2/mNPs hybrids were prepared by reducing metal precursors on the surface of WS2 nanosheets at room temperature. The size of mNPs as well as their density on the WS2 surface were effectively tuned by varying the amount of the precursors against WS2 nanosheets. The obtained WS2/mNPs hybrids were then successfully applied to photocatalyzed carbon-carbon coupling reactions.
