The world is facing an urgent need for environmentally friendly and renewable energy technologies. As the direct exploitation of the ultimate energy source of the earth surface, solar power is a critical objective for our future. Current silicon-based solar energy production is expensive due to the energy- and water-intensive production processes. The organic photovoltaic materials have recently attracted much attention due to their low- cost, flexibility, light weight and their potential use in large- area flexible devices.<br/>Indigo is the most produced natural dye with a highly planer bis-lactam structure. The planer bis-lactam structures have attracted considerable interest since their electron-withdrawing nature alongside their planarity has enabled their copolymers to reach organic photovoltaic (OPV) and organic field-effect transistor (OEFT) mobilities. Isoindigo has a similar planer bis-lactam structure with better conjugate prosperity. Here we report the synthesis, characterization, and optoelectronic properties of a specific type of isoindigo-DPPT copolymers. This n-type copolymer class is a promising acceptor material for future OPV and OFET devices.
